The National insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) annual convention was held in September 2015 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
When I joined NIBA as Chief Executive Officer in mid 2011, our annual industry convention for that year in Sydney was well and truly planned and ready to roll. A great effort had been undertaken by the NIBA Convention Committee, with the strong support of WALDRONSMITH Management, who has been helping NIBA with the annual convention for many, many years. We repeated the effort the following year at Jupiters on the Gold Coast – a great time was had by all to celebrate the 30th annual NIBA Convention.
But we had a problem: delegate numbers were in decline, and sponsors and exhibitors were noticing. I am delighted and very grateful that we were able to work closely with WALDRONSMITH Management, and reshape and rebuild the annual NIBA Convention to something that is more attractive to industry delegates, and especially our industry supporters. NIBA has a long history of working with WALDRONSMITH Management, but instead of doing what we always did, I am so grateful that Kate and the team were prepared to work with us to challenge what we do, make the necessary changes and deliver an even better experience each year.

It really has been great working on the arrangements for the Congress with the WALDRONSMITH Management team over the last few years. ICOMS 2015, the biennial conference of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons was successfully completed in October. I first met with Kate and Gerard in 2012 after we had been selected to host the conference in Melbourne. From our first meeting it was clear that we were dealing with a professional team of high standing. Kate rapidly understood our needs and together we began our 3 year journey. Together we established a marketing and development plan including attendance at 5 International Conferences for delegate boosting. Kate or a senior WALDRONSMITH Management representative accompanied and supported our Organising Committee members on these journeys. WSM had a breadth of talent across finances, sponsorship, abstract management and dealing with our very special invited guests was no trouble at all.
Onsite WALDRONSMITH Management easily managed all of the requirements, registration, liaison with MCEC, speaker preparation and IT. The social events, particularly our Discover Melbourne Function at Showtime will be remembered by all of the delegates for years to come. The night is already strongly included in ICOMS folklore as how to have a wonderful event that shows the vibrancy and diversity of our wonderful city. Overall a very exciting and enjoyable conference and coming from the Conference Chairman that is a strong recommendation for WALDRONSMITH Management.

The Energy Networks Association (ENA) held its biennial Conference and Exhibition, Energy Networks 2014, in Melbourne in May this year. The WALDRONSMITH Management team were our professional conference organisers for the event and we found them to be extremely helpful and knowledgeable and contributed in a large way to the success of the event. The Joint World Conference on Social Work, Education and Social Development was held in July 2014 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Drawing together over 1500 delegates from 78 countries was an amazing effort and achievement. The WALDRONSMITH Management team was absolutely pivotal in ensuring this event was an enormous success.
Their expertise was evident at every point of the planning process. From the complexities of budget planning and monitoring both locally and with three international conference owners, through to anticipating every aspect of the scientific and social program, their knowledge of conference organising and people management was outstanding. The Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand (USANZ) held its 2014 Annual Scientific Meeting at the Brisbane Convention Centre. The Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) recently held its 2013 Annual Scientific Meeting at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. In February of this year the 10th International Congress of Andrology was held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre jointly hosted by the Fertility Society of Australia in conjunction with the International Society of Andrology.
The Congress attracted delegates from over 30 different countries and WALDRONSMITH Management once again provided excellent service in every respect. The experience at WSM helped guide us through the hurdles of a precarious budget to ensure that this memorable event went off without a glitch and that the budget wasn’t compromised in doing so. The Fertility Society of Australia hosted the recent FSA 2012 Conference at SkyCity Convention Centre, Auckland, New Zealand. The conference was an overwhelming success and on behalf of the Organising Committee I would like to thank WALDRONSMITH Management for their support and assistance in delivering an excellent onsite experience for all delegates.
The inaugural use of the Conference SMART App was well received by all delegates. The easily downloadable App was fully integrated with the conference website, providing delegates access to all relevant information both prior to and during the conference.
As Convenor it was a pleasure to showcase a great scientific program, fantastic conference dinner and the wonderful city of Auckland to the conference attendees and am sure they enjoyed their experience in New Zealand.

The Trans-Tasman Endodontic Conference has a strong relationship with WALDRONSMITH Management and the development of the Conference over the years. For the first time this year we took the initiative, with the assistance of WSM, to introduce their Phone App to the Conference. The easy to use Phone App became a great tool onsite and we received positive feedback. We are certainly going to continue with this Phone App in the future and explore the possibilities with WSM of the additional benefits that we can bring to our sponsors as well as new functionality to the delegates.

The Organisers of the joint 2011 International Quantum Electronics Conference / Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Pacific Rim would like to congratulate WALDRONSMITH Management (WSM) on their outstanding performance in helping make this conference a great success.
This is the first time that CLEO Pacific Rim has been held in Australia, and just the second time that IQEC has been held here. With a total of 1,016 delegates the conference broke numerous records, being the largest conference on lasers and their applications to be held in Australia and in the Southern Hemisphere. It was also the largest gathering of Australian participants in this field, the largest CLEO Pacific Rim conference, and only the second largest joint conference with IQEC by a few score delegates (the largest being in Japan in 2005).
The Organising Committee benefited enormously from the professionalism and the high degree of organisation exhibited by WSM, who made our task significantly easier by ensuring that all milestones were met and nothing fell between the cracks. Especially on the financial side – where regular budget updates were provided and approvals sought on all items indicating whether they were above or within budget – we were able to maintain a clear picture of where we were heading.
We were particularly impressed with their responsiveness and the proactive manner in which they solicited support for the conference. As one example, we appreciated the initiative they showed in contacting and dealing with prospective exhibitors and sponsors for the conference.
The conference itself ran smoothly and efficiently thanks to the efforts of WSM, and the vast majority of delegates went away satisfied with their experience. The benchmark set by this conference will establish a high standard for the series for many years to come, in no small part due to the contribution made by WSM.

The McDonalds Owner Operator Convention was successfully held in Adelaide in March 2011. This is the third time that we have employed the services of WALDRONSMITH Management (WSM), after two previous events in Melbourne and Perth. We had 620 Owner Operators and their partners, Corporate staff, suppliers and business partners attend a action packed three days, that showcased all of the wonderful attributes that South Australia has to offer. The “Long Lunch” at the Adelaide Cricket oval was an outstanding and extremely well organised event that led to comments like “the Long Lunch was a stroke of genius” and I have lost count as to how many delegates have told me that it was the “best McDonalds Conference that they had attended”.
It was a pleasure to work with Kate Smith, Jade Comerford our Conference Manager and all of the WALDRONSMITH Management team who brilliantly executed the Convention Committee’s brief ensuring that the convention delivered on our promise of providing a fantastic environment for fun, fellowship and a unique South Australian food and wine experience. The 19th Congress of the Australian Institute of Physics (incorporating the 25th Australian Conference on Optical Fibre Technology) was held at the Melbourne Convention Centre from 5-9 December 2010 with 800 delegates. I was very impressed by the professionalism of the staff at WSM in all aspects of the organisation of the Congress, whether it was working with the Committees, assisting delegates, negotiating with the venue and interacting with sponsors and exhibitors. WSM also demonstrated the flexibility to handle, with flair, the unexpected developments that are an inevitable feature of organising a large and complex event. Working to tight deadlines and a firm budget, the work done by WSM underpinned an excellent conference that showcased Australian physics and provided a warm and inspiring environment for the community to come together.

The Australian International Aerospace Congress (AIAC) held recently at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre is a confederation of conferences forming the preeminent Aerospace Technical event in Australia. A competitive tender process for our PCO organisation has been won by WALDRONSMITH Management three times running as a result of proposals tuned very specifically to our needs with excellent knowledge of our event. In the organising and running of AIAC14, WSM have delivered on all key aspects of their proposal helping the Congress to grow this year strongly despite economic challenges still facing the Aerospace and Defence sectors in Australia.
The number and nature of conferences included in our congress changes with each running of the event and working together we have been able to readily adapt AIAC to meet new challenges and broaden our event to successfully incorporate international aerospace symposia. The increasing success with each running of AIAC increases our importance on the international stage for Aerospace technical fora and we expect to be able to continue to improve the delegate experience with this agile approach to creating the event afresh.
My thanks go to WSM and their Conference Managers for delivering true to their proposal and enabling the Committee to concentrate on the content and not on processes and providing control instead of complication. The result was memorable and we are all rightly proud of what was achieved.
